Connected Care Platform will change the delivery of care at home

Home care company Home Instead Senior Care has partnered with Anthropos Digital Care to launch a new technology service which will help older people to stay well and in their homes for longer.

“Home Aware” uses a range of smart sensors in the home to build a picture of the activities of an older person such as patterns of sleep and frequency of bathroom visits.

Anthropos’s technology means that Home Instead Senior Care teams can understand and act upon these insights and adjust care accordingly as well as giving family members the reassurance about what is happening to their loved ones when they can’t be there.

Jim Patience, CEO of Anthropos explains:

Our platform combines the data generated by a number of internet-enabled devices and sensors to provide a view of patterns of behaviour of an individual at home. For example, it may alert us that an older person has been in bed for a long period of time and could be unwell or even that a kettle has been turned on and off repeatedly which could be a sign of dementia.   We then analyse the data to generate alerts and actionable insights for Home Instead Senior Care and the family. Understanding meaningful changes and patterns in the home enables better care planning and enhanced care delivery.”

The pilot of the Anthropos Connected Care Platform ran throughout 2018 at four Home Instead Senior Care franchises in Bristol North, Charnwood, Market Harborough and Wirral, providing their CAREGivers with a wide range of intelligent information. The franchises and their CAREGivers found that the insights into these patterns helped them to design better care plans and gave family members reassurance about what was happening to their loved ones when they could not be there.

Martin Jones, CEO of Home Instead Senior Care UK said:

This approach is part of our innovative care model and using technology to support our person-centred approach. Home Aware means we can continue to provide the highest quality care which is even more bespoke for our clients. The technology will give us the insights which will allow us to create better care plans and approaches for clients to help them stay well at home for longer where they are happiest. It also means that families can have valuable reassurance about their relatives at home.”
